Elivar - Bringing the Benefits of Ubiquinol to Sports Nutrition

Elivar recently launched a range of Sports Nutrition products that include Ubiquinol. In this article we outline the performance and health benefits of  Ubiquinol and why have we included it in our latest products.

What is Ubiquinol?

Co-Enzyme Q10 (CoQ10), a fat soluble compound involved in energy production across the body's cells through its role in the production of ATP, a molecule that helps distribute energy to each cell in your body. Ubiquinol as the active form is more readily available and directly utilised by the body.

CoQ10 is most associated with heart health because the highest concentrations of CoQ10 are found in the heart, however recent research into Ubiquinol, the most bio-available form of CoQ10, points to energy and endurance benefits during exercise.

Why have we included Ubiquinol in the Elivar product range?

Our goal with all our products is to provide tailored Sports Nutrition products for those of us who are Over 35 and very active, where our participation in sport is a balance between healthy (and social) competition and our long term health. In combining Ubiquinol with our latest products we're delivering a long term health benefit that also aids performance and recovery.

CoQ10 is produced naturally in the body however we produce less as we age. This is a problem especially when you combine the lower production with exercise induced reduction in overall levels.  Adding Ubiquinol to your diet - through Sports Nutrition or daily supplementation - can reverse the natural depletion in Ubiquinol levels and also bring performance benefits as illustrated in two recent studies:

  • A study of short-term Ubiquinol supplementation during strenuous exercise indicated that it improved energy production and muscle recover after exercise.*
  • Male distance runners reported suppressed subjective fatigue following supplementation with Ubiquinol during a period of intensive training.**

* Short-term ubiquinol supplementation reduces oxidative stress associated with strenuous exercise in healthy adults: A randomized trial. Sarmiento, Diaz-Castro, Pulido-Moran, Moreno-Fernandez, et al

**Short-term Ubiquinol-10 supplementation alleviates tissue damage in muscle and fatigue caused by strenuous exercise in male distance runners. Suzuki, Nagato, Sakuraba, Morio & Sawaki
