Why Trail Runners Should Consume Gels

Why Trail Runners Should Consume Gels

Trail runners consume gels for a quick and easily digestible source of energy during long and strenuous runs.

Gels provide a concentrated source of carbohydrates which are  converted into glucose and absorbed into the bloodstream, providing a source of energy to help maintain performance and delay fatigue. Additionally, they are lightweight, portable and easy to consume on the go.

Not All Gels Are Created Equal

While gels can be a convenient and effective source of energy for trail runners, some runners may experience stomach discomfort or upset when consuming traditional fast-acting gels.

Elivar's Sustain Go! formulations are generally well tolerated in the stomach as the sustained-release formula is easier on the stomach, without the discomfort brought on by traditional fast-release, high-GI gels.

Elivar's sustained release formulations are also beneficial for preventing blood sugar spikes and crashes, which can lead to fatigue and poor performance.

Ubiquinol

Sustain Go! also contains Ubiquinol - the bio-available form of coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10). Ubiquinol is essential for energy production and it supports the production of ATP, the primary energy source for the body. Supplementing with ubiquinol can help improve energy levels and reduce fatigue.

It's important to remember that energy needs are individual and what works for one runner may not work for another. Trail runners should experiment with different types of energy sources during training to determine what works best for them during races.
