Turkey Burner IV - The Winners

Well done to everyone that took part in last week's Turkey Burner IV.

Some serious distances were covered - with 11,362 km by the Elivar Bike Club and 976 km by the Elivar Run Club.

Running Club Winners (drum roll…)

Overall Distance: Lee Cartmell who posted a very impressive 146 km spread over 9 runs with the longest being 42.4 km - which very nearly won the longest Distance!

Longest Run: Jamie Oliver with a 42.8 km mega run!

Cycling Club Winners

Overall Distance: Rachael Elliott whose 630.0 km delivered her second Turkey Burner win in a row - having already biked away with last years Overall Distance prize.

Longest Ride: Robert Crank set the bar pretty high with his 177.3 km spin although long-time friend of Elivar Ralph Cullen in second place had a Garmin-fail on his 200km MTB ride though Holland which would have seen him on top of the leader board had it uploaded correctly - bummer!

Add 5 Years to Your Life: How Endurance and Outdoor Sports Boost Longevity

In the quest for a longer, healthier life, recent studies have found an encouraging connection between endurance and outdoor sports and longevity. One of these studies, conducted by the International Longevity Centre UK, analysed Commonwealth Games competitor records dating back to 1930. The study revealed that top-level athletes can live up to five years longer than the general population, with men's longevity boosted most by 24% - 29% in case of aquatic, track and indoor sports, which translates to between 4.5 and 5.3 extra years of life. Women experienced a 22% increase in longevity across all sports categories equating to 3.9 extra years of life.
